That support to culture and the media can playa significant role in the effort to reduce povertyis often overlooked and misunderstoodand thus given low priority in development cooperation.In fact, it is not uncommon amongdevelopment practitioners to regard such supportas unnecessary and a waste of resources.Furthermore, the discourse on the relationshipbetween poverty reduction and culture and themedia has been relatively meagre — probablybecause of the low status that these sectorscommand.
