Summary

The Afrobarometer network defi nes itself as “an independent, non-partisan research instrument thatmeasures the social, political and economic atmosphere in Africa.” It has produced three survey roundsfrom 1999 to 2005, funded by numerous agencies, in 18 Sub-Saharan African countries. The modularquestionnaires, which can be adapted to specifi c conditions while retaining their compa rability, areproposed through face-to-face interviews to a national probability sample determined through closecollaboration with central statistics services.
